The SRIE 2023 “Idea Bank” competition, held in conjunction with the Selangor R&D and Innovation Expo 2023 (SRIE 2023) is an exciting opportunity for anyone with a keen eye for problem-solving skills to submit their innovative ideas to be picked up by the R&D Community!


The competition aims to gather potential solutions to various challenges and make them available to the Research and Development (R&D) community.


Participants stand a chance to win prize money worth RM3,000 for the best ideas.

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Eligibility:
    a. The competition is open to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Anyone with a creative mind and a passion for problem-solving is welcome to participate. You may participate as a team, but the idea (and any prize money henceforth is attributed as a single entry from the entire team).
    b. Idea Poster Format:
    i. All submissions must be in the form of an original poster/writeup/infographic.
    ii. The poster should be visually clear and informative, presenting the idea clearly and concisely.
    iii. The idea should address a real-world problem and propose a viable solution.
  2. Submission Process:
    To enter the competition, participants must complete the following steps:
    a. Access the online submission form on the official “Idea Bank” competition website.
    b. Fill in all required fields in the submission form. This may include personal details (name, age, contact information) and a brief description of the idea.
    c. Upload the idea poster in a suitable format (e.g., JPEG, PNG, PDF) through the provided platform.
  3. Originality and Plagiarism:
    a. Submissions must be the original work of the participants.
    b. Any idea found to be plagiarized or copied from external sources will be disqualified.
  4. Idea Ownership:
    a. By submitting an idea, participants grant the competition organizers the right to showcase, share, and promote the ideas for any purpose.
  5. Deadline:
    a. The competition submission period will start on 28th August 2023, until 30th September 2023.
    b. Late submissions may not be considered, so ensure to submit your idea before the specified deadline.
  6. Judging Criteria:
    Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria, by an expert judging panel that will be appointed by the organiser:
    a. Creativity and originality of the idea.
    b. Relevance and significance of the problem being addressed.
    c. Feasibility and potential impact of the proposed solution.
    d. Clarity and effectiveness of the poster’s presentation.
  7. Winner Selection:
    a. After the submission period ends, the judging panel will review all eligible entries and select the best ideas.
    b. The winners will be notified through the contact information provided during the submission process.
  8. Prizes:
    a. The best ideas, as determined by the judging panel, will receive prize money as follows:
    i. First Place: RM3,000
    ii. Second Place: RM2,000
    iii. Third Place: RM1,000
    iv. Consolation Prizes (given to 7 winners): RM500
  9. Public Sharing:
    a. Participants are encouraged to share their ideas and participation in the competition on social media using the official competition hashtag.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE SRIE 2023 IDEA BANK COMPETITION

  1. Eligibility:
    1.1. By participating in the SRIE 2023 “Idea Bank” competition, you (the “Participant”) agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. The competition is open to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Participants may join as individuals or teams, but each idea submission will be considered as a single entry from the entire team.
  2. Idea Submission:
    2.1. All submissions must be original and created solely by the Participant(s). Plagiarized, copied, or infringing ideas will be disqualified.
    2.2. Participants grant the SRIE 2023 “Idea Bank” competition organizers a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, and share the submitted ideas for non-commercial purposes, including promotional and educational materials.
  3. Submission Deadline:
    3.1. All idea submissions must be received by 30th September 2023. Late submissions may not be considered.
  4. Judging Criteria:
    4.1. Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria: creativity, originality, relevance, significance, feasibility, potential impact, and clarity of presentation.
    4.2. The judging panel, appointed by the organizers, will have the sole discretion to select the winning ideas. All decisions by the organizers and judges are final.
  5. Winner Selection and Notification:
    5.1. The winning ideas will be selected by the judging panel after the submission period ends.
    5.2. Winners will be notified using the contact information provided during the submission process. If a winner cannot be contacted or fails to respond within a specified time, an alternate winner may be selected.
  6. Prize:
    6.1. Winners will be selected based on the judging criteria outlined in the submission guidelines. The judging panel’s decisions are final and not subject to appeal. The prize money will be awarded to the winners in accordance with the specified amounts as follows:
    6.1.1. First Place: RM3,000
    6.1.2. Second Place: RM2,000
    6.1.3. Third Place: RM1,000
    6.1.4. Consolation Prizes (given to 7 winners): RM500 each
    6.2. The prize money will be disbursed via a method determined by the competition organizers, and winners may be required to provide necessary details for payment processing.
    6.3. Participants acknowledge and agree that the prize money awarded to winners shall be the sole compensation and financial benefit for their participation and submission of ideas in the “Idea Bank” competition.
    6.4. The competition organizers reserve the right to substitute prizes of equal or comparable value in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
    6.5. Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged.
  7. Public Sharing:
    7.1. Participants are encouraged to share their ideas and participation in the competition on social media using the official competition hashtag.
    7.2. The competition organizers may also share and promote selected ideas on their official channels for non-commercial purposes.
  8. Disqualification:
    8.1. The competition organizers reserve the right to disqualify any Participant who violates these Terms and Conditions or engages in fraudulent or unethical behavior.
    8.2. Decisions made by the judging panel and competition organizers are final and not subject to appeal.
  9. Limitation of Liability:
    9.1. The competition organizers, sponsors, and associated parties shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from participation in the competition or the use of any prize.
    9.2. Participants agree to release and hold harmless the competition organizers from any claims, damages, or liabilities related to their participation in the competition or acceptance of any prize.
  10. Modification and Termination:
    10.1. The competition organizers reserve the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the “Idea Bank” competition at any time for any reason, without liability.
  11. Governing Law:
    11.1. These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of [Jurisdiction], without regard to its conflict of laws principles.
    11.2. By participating in the SRIE 2023 “Idea Bank” competition, Participants acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agree to abide by these Terms and Conditions.
  12. Commercial Use/Royalties:
    12.1. By submitting an idea to the “Idea Bank” competition, participants grant the competition organizers a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, and share the ideas for any purposes, including but not limited to promotional materials, educational materials, and exhibition at the SRIE 2023 event or related events.
    12.2. Participants acknowledge and agree that they shall not be entitled to any royalties, compensation, or financial benefits for the use of their ideas in promotional materials or any non-commercial purposes.
    12.3. By providing this clause, participants understand that the competition organizers may use their ideas in promotional materials without any obligation to pay royalties or compensation. This clause also reinforces that participants do not retain ownership of their ideas and that they will not be entitled to financial benefits specifically for the use of their ideas in non-commercial promotional activities related to the “Idea Bank” competition or SRIE 2023 event.
  13. Participant Protection:
    13.1. The competition organizers will take reasonable measures to protect participants’ ideas from unauthorized access, disclosure, or use. However, as the ideas will be shared with the R&D community and during the judging process, participants should understand that absolute confidentiality cannot be guaranteed once the ideas are in the public domain.
  14. Modification of Terms:
    14.1. The competition organizers reserve the right to modify or update these Terms and Conditions at any time, at their sole discretion. Any changes to the Terms and Conditions will be communicated to participants through the official “Idea Bank” competition website or other appropriate means. Participants are encouraged to review the Terms and Conditions regularly for any updates or modifications. By continuing to participate in the competition after any changes are made, participants agree to be bound by the revised Terms and Conditions.
